Małgorzata Toczyska-Ludwig

Soprano

Polish soprano Małgorzata Toczyska-Ludwig began her musical path studying piano and flute before dedicating herself to vocal performance. She received her first vocal training at the Academy of Music in Łódź with Urszula Kryger and continued her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under the guidance of Bożena Betley, where she earned her Master of Arts degree in 2008.

Her career has been marked by early competition successes, including distinctions in the “Young Talents” National Singing Competition in Sieradz and the Gliwice National Singing Competition. She soon went on to perform in leading Polish venues and opera houses, with notable early appearances as Clarice in Haydn’s Il mondo della luna(Warsaw Chamber Opera, 2004 & 2006), Melania in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus (Warsaw), and as the First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Polish National Opera (2007).

Between 2008 and 2010, she sang roles such as Wanda in Kurpiński’s The Castle of Czorsztyn and Basia in Bogusławski’s The Presumed Miracle, or the Cracovians and the Highlanders. She has also appeared in numerous concert performances, including Mozart’s Requiem at the Kielce Philharmonic, Die Zauberflöte at the Zielona Góra Philharmonic, as well as recitals at the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Warsaw Music Association.

Małgorzata has taken part in international projects, such as “The Roads of Romanticism”, a European Commission–supported cultural initiative (with performances in L’Aquila, Italy, later released on DVD). She has also refined her artistry in masterclasses with distinguished singers and pedagogues, including Christa Ludwig, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Teresa Żylis-Gara, Wiesław Ochman, Helena Łazarska, and Jagna Sokorska-Kwika.

In recent years, she has collaborated with the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Kraków Chamber Opera, and during the 2017/2018 season she sang Pamina and Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Lublin Music Theatre. In 2023–2024, she was engaged at the Warsaw Chamber Opera.

Her versatile repertoire spans leading lyric and lyric-coloratura roles, including Liù (Turandot), Mimì and Musetta (La Bohème), Pamina and Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Ilia (Idomeneo), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Nanetta (Falstaff), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Micaëla (Carmen), and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi).

With her warm timbre, refined musicality, and wide-ranging repertoire, Małgorzata Toczyska-Ludwig continues to build a distinguished operatic and concert career on both national and international stages.
